My former employer says I was given a salary advance I didnt ask for do I have to pay it back?

It doesn't matter if you asked for it or not. They made an accounting error in your favor and you cashed the check. Sorry to say since you were not actually supposed to receive the payment you will have to pay it back. They will most likely set up payment plan for you.
